Don’t feel like ditching your favourite clothes, even when they have gone out of fashion? What if we tell you, that you could always transform them to something that’s much more in trend? Wouldn’t it be great if such old threads could instead, turn into statement pieces?
Wait… ‘Statement Pieces’? Absolutely!
Sounds like a lot of hard work, huh? Actually, no!
Here’s a quick guide to achieve just that! And rest assured that you will love them even more, once you add your own creative twist.
OVER-SIZED JACKET TO A HIGH WAISTED SKIRT
Is there an oversized jacket lying idle in your wardrobe? How about converting it into a smart button-front short skirt?
Cut the jacket from the pocket line and stitch the skirt waist by giving an inside fold. Shape the sides and bottom in your comfortable baggy/fitted style.
Try it out with a matching sleeveless/full sleeve tee for a semi-formal look.
LONG COAT TO A SLEEVELESS DRESS
Now how about converting that boring long coat into a super-stylish casual dress?
Take any long coat, cut the sleeves apart and stitch the armhole seams by folding them inside. Make a waist belt with the left-over sleeve piece and tie it to define your waist.
Combine it with a pair of contrast heels for a dashing weekend look.
SHIRT TO AN ASYMMETRIC TOP
You can always flick a shirt from your dad’s/brother’s/boyfriend’s wardrobe to make a chic top! We’re sure they wouldn’t mind losing an old shirt!
Turn the shirt around, cut an asymmetrical shoulder line and stitch in an elastic to the edge, to create a one-shoulder look. Add a tie-up detailing at the back to style the hem baggy/ fitted. The back of the top will have a smart button-down fastening with a tie-up detail at the bottom.
Match it with a matching skirt/trousers/culottes for a fun day out with friends.
HIGH-WAISTED JEANS TO A BACK OPEN DRESS
Rocking the streets in a denim dress made from an old pair of jeans is not a bad idea after all…
Take an old pair of loose fitting denims, pull out the seams along the crotch line and stitch it flat. Cut the shoulder line leaving an armhole space. Attach a denim piece on the shoulder back and low back to hold the design in place.
Try it over a black fitted long spaghetti top for an uber-cool day look.
SCARF TO A CAPE TOP
Here’s a super cosy and stylish cape top that you can just throw over your jeans and get going!!!
Take a thick long-scarf and fold it into a square with 4 layers. Cut the desired neck space on the closed edge of the square and a curved hem on the edge diagonal to the neck-hole edge. Open the fabric and add two buttons below the neck hole for fastening and contrast edging all-over to cover the raw edges of the top.
Drape it over your spaghetti slip with a pair of denims.
DRESS TO A SKIRT
Love for the print not letting you move on from that old maxi dress from your wardrobe? Here is how you can re-fashion it…
Iron out the pleats and remove the side seams. Make the neckline of the dress, your new waistline and cut-out the excess fabric according to your measurements. Stitch the cut-out edges together and attach a waist band to complete the skirt.
Wear it with a matching crop top and strappy heels.
Can’t wear that same old jacket anymore? Here is what you can do to make it interesting!
Cut the blazer lapel out from the neck line, stitch the edges and shape the blazer-back to be your top-front with small tucks. Attach press buttoned 2-inch bands on the opening for a sexy-back look.
Wear it over your denim skirt for a refreshing street look.
Well, that was simple, wasn’t it?
